01: The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking Route.

Taking a short flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu about 40 minutes, very close to India's border elevation of 90 meters where from we start our overland journey to the beautiful tea garden Illam, Fikal, Kanyan where we stay overnight middle of the tea garden. Evening you have a great opportunity to explore the beautiful tea garden and around. The next day after breakfast drive continues to Taplejung bazaar headquarters of Taplejung district. Continue driving to Suketar Hill where our actual walking journey starts. We will trek along the Lali Kharka, Kade Banjyang, Phumphe Danda, Sherpaguan, Torongton, Tseram, and our last stop Ramche. Ramche is known as Kanchenjunga South Side Base Camp. There is not any tea house, Lodge above Ramche however we hike up to Oktang viewpoint to explore the best view of the Kanchenjunga south view and surrounding Himalayan peaks.

 02: Attractions of Kangchenjunga South Base Camp side.

Hike from Ramche to Oktang viewpoint will take about 1 hour ascending along the side of Yalung Glacier. Yalung Glacier is the biggest Glacier in Kanchenjunga South Side that is connected with the world's third-highest Peak mount Kangchenjunga. From the top of Oktang viewpoint we can observe breathtaking views of the Himalayan Peak like, Yalung Khang west 8077 meters, Yalung Khang 8505 meters, mount Kanchenjunga (Kangchenjunga) 8586 meters, Kanchenjunga Central 8482 meters, Kanchenjunga South 8476 meters, Kabru I 7412 meters, Kabru II 7339 meters, Kabru III 7338 meters, Kabru IV 7318 meters and Rothong 6682 meters are the Himalayan wall we can explore from Oktang view Point 4730 meters.

After visiting all, we trek back to Tseram and step up to Chhuchung Pokhari Hill. One of the beautiful campsites, where from we can observe the beautiful view of the high mountains to Simbuwa Khola Valley. Simbuwa Khola start to flow out from Yalung Glacier and connected with Ghunsa Khola (flow out from Kangchenjunga Glacier on the North side) at Hellok and now instinctive a Tamor Nadi. Heading south to north direction over Sinelapche Bhanjyang 4646 meters is the first pass, continue to Mirgin La Pass 4480 meters, Sinion La 4440 meters and Sele La 4290 meters is the last pass that connects us with Noth side of Mt. Kanchenjunga. 

From Sele La Pass in Clear weather, we can observe Panoramic views of Mount Makalu and Everest. Descending through the beautiful rhododendrons and pine forest to a deep valley lead us to Ghunsa Village one of the biggest Buddhist local village in the lap of Mount Kanchenjunga and the riverbank of ghunsa khola.

03: The attraction of Kanchenjunga North Base Camp side.

Entering toward to north valley of Kanchenjunga following the Ghunsa Khola leads us to Kambachen (khangpachen) one of the beautiful valleys in the Kanchenjunga north base camp side. From Kambachen we can do a beautiful side trip to Janu Himal Base Camp (Kumbhakarna) one of the most attractive mountains in eastern Nepal. Janu Himal is a very beautiful mountain there is not any record found until today climbers made a successful summit of Janu Himal elevation of 7711 meters Peak. It is about a day trip from Kambachen to Janu Himal Base Camp and back, high light of the day is an attractive close view of Mount Janu and Kumbhakarna Glacier.

With the flexible time frame, we strongly recommend another day trip to Nupchu Pokhari from Kambachen following the Nupchu Khola northwest of Kambachen. Beautiful Glacier Lake is located in Lap of Nupchu Peak elevation of 6044 meters. It is a long day trip but it is very worth doing and enjoying the beauty of the blue Himalayan Glacier Lake.   

The journey continues to Lhonak and Pang Pema, Pang Pema is the last stopping point in Kanchenjunga's north base camp side, a very simple hut only open in trekking season. Also, if they don’t see trekkers trekking up to Pang Pema, they run down to home in Ghunsa, and often during the season time it is closed. Many groups make Pang Peam only day trip from Lhonak and they don’t stay overnight at Pang Pema. Pang Pema is recognized by Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, where the Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition team also set up Base Camp here at Pang Pema elevation of 5153 meters.

This is the highest elevation trekkers will sleep during the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek. Drohmo Ri viewpoint is about 5900 meters hill located above Pang Pema. Drohmo Ri View Point is the perfect place to observe the Kanchenjunga and surrounding Himalayan Peaks. From the Drohmo Ri View Point, we can observe Dom Khang at 7264 meters, Jhingsang La at 6164 meters, Langchung Khang at 6786 meters, Langpo Peak at 6965 meters, Pathibhara East at 6857 meters, Pathibhara Himal 6837 meters, Pathibhara (Pyramid Peak) 7140 meters, Kirat Chuli 7362 meters, Nepal Peak 7177 meters, Nepal Gyap 6194 meters, Gimmigela Chuli (the twins) 7350 meters, and world third highest peak mount Kangchenjunga, Yalung Kang, Kanchenjunga central and Kanchenjunga South.

04: Authentic Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp.
Kangchenjunga base camp trek is still a pure off-the-beaten-path trek, trekking to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp route is less established than other popular trekking routes like Mount Everest Base Camp Trek. Everest Base Camp trekking route is a world-popular trekking route where luxurious hotels and lodges are available. Those Luxuries infrastructure we cannot imagine trekking to the Kanchenjunga base camp route.  Very hardly less than 1000 trekkers trek to Kanchenjunga base camp each year. The pure authentic local village, away from modern life, nature's beautiful landscapes, and of course world's third highest Peak mount Kanchenjunga and other Himalayas views make our Kanchenjunga Trekking journey one of the most interesting journeys to the remote eastern corner of Nepal. 

05: Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek Itinerary,
Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek's actual walking journey starts from Suketar Hill following the original route. Trek starts from Suketar, leading us first to Southside Base Camp and trek toward Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. However, if the trek starts from the first North Side then, nowadays we can drive Taplejung to Lelep and the actual trek starts from Lelep. We offer 26 days trek to Kanchenjunga's south and North base camp arriving in Kathmandu to departure from Kathmandu. 06: Kanchenjunga trek difficulty,
Hiking to Kanchenjunga is about a 3 weeks long trek, actual walking journey starts from Suketar and ends at Lelep (Hellok). Lots of ascending and descending involve in the Kanchenjunga trek. Also, we will cross Sinelapche Bhanjyang 4646 meters as the first pass, continue to Mirgin La Pass 4480 meters, Sinion La 4440 meters, and Sele La 4290 meters as the last pass. So, we have to be physically fit and able to walk each day for 4 to 8 hours like 8 to 15 kilometers each day. We categorize Kanchenjunga Trek difficulty as a demanding grade that is a combination of moderate to demanding grades.

07: Kanchenjunga Trekking in Nepal Side.
Kanchenjunga trek Nepal side can be included trekking to Kanchenjunga North base camp and Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Following the Ghunsa Khola lead us to Kambachen, Lhonak, and Pang Pema. Pang Pema is the highest point of the trek we will sleep overnight. Also, Pang Pema is known as Kanchenjunga North Base Camp.

Following the original route to Kanchenjunga Trekking in Nepal side via Suketar, Lali Kharka, Simbuwa, Kande Bhanjyang, Khesewa, Phungphung danda, Phumphe danda, Mamankhe, Yamphudin, Chittre, Lasiya, Bhanjyang, Torong and now following the Simbuwa Khola connect us Tseram (Cheram) and Ramche and Yalung Glacier. Ramche is the highest point we will sleep overnight during our Kanchenjunga Trek on the South side. One of the most beautiful hiking Kanchenjunga around the world's third highest peak is a lifetime trekking experience in the remote eastern corner of Nepal.

08: Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek Cost.
It is very important to know the cost before traveling to any destination, however, the cost is very different from how you will travel. Like solo Travel, or group travel or you will trek staying at Lodge or love to do a Luxuries Camping Trek, all those make trip cost different.

11: How high is Kanchenjunga Base Camp?
World's third-highest peak mount Kanchenjunga (Kangchenjunga) is a standing height of 8586 meters. Yalung Khang 8505 meters, Yalung Khang West 8077 meters, Kanchenjunga Central 8482 meters and Kanchenjunga south 8476 meters. The trekking group stopping point is Ramche height of 4580 meters and the Expedition group set base camp over Yalung Glacier Height of 4800 meters in Kanchenjunga South Side. Pang Pema is the Base Camp of Mount Kanchenjunga's North Side height of 5143 meters. Trekking and Expedition both set their base camp at Pang Pema which is known as KBC north base camp.

What a precious time we had at Kanchenjunga North base camp. We stayed 4 nights camping at Pang Pema elevation of 5143 meters at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp and did several day hikes. We climbed Domo Ri viewpoint of about 5900 meters for a close view to see Mt.  Kanchenjunga world’s third highest peak. Word’s third highest peak mt Kanchenjunga is located between Nepal and Sikkim 8586 meters tall in eastern Nepal.
