Parchamo Peak (6279m) is part of the Rolwaling Himal range and lies just west of Everest. It overlooks both the Rolwaling and Khumbu regions and is a straightforward but spectacular ascent for experienced climbers. The Khumbu region, through which you’ll trek before veering off to Parchamo, is the heartland of Sherpa culture. As well as the stunning mountains, there are many cultural attractions along the way, such as Tibetan Buddhist stupas, monasteries, prayer wheels, and large carved mani stones.
Parchamo Peak sits atop the TashiLapcha Pass, which separates the Rolwaling and Khumbu regions. Rolwaling is a wild, isolated high valley, whereas Khumbu is the popular and well-visited home of Everest. On this trek and climbing expedition, you get a bit of the best of both worlds: the adventure of climbing a lesser-visited peak, plus trekking through a rightfully famous and popular region.
This climbing expedition begins with a short but exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This small town on the edge of a mountain is the gateway to the Everest region, so is always busy with trekkers, porters, and support animals passing through. Trek to Namche Bazaar, a bustling Sherpa town full of lodges, cafes, souvenir shops, and cultural attractions like monasteries and museums. This is the last place on the Everest Base Camp route to stock up on supplies, plus at 3440m it is an ideal place to acclimatize, so it is always busy here.
After Namche, veer off towards Thame, Thengpo, and Ngole. Set up base camp on the moraines below Parchamo. Climb to the northeast of the TashiLapcha Pass, and set up the high camp. The peak is accessible from here, above the glaciers of TashiLapcha. From the peak, you can look down and enjoy stunning views of the Rolwaling Valley on one side, and the Khumbu region on the other. Return the same way, and fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
The first few days of this trek will be spent sleeping in basic but comfortable lodges on the Everest Base Camp route. Then, switch to tented accommodation. On the return, sleep in lodges again. There is the option of staying in very high-quality lodges in some places, should your budget allow.
