From our arrival to our goodbyes, our whole Nepal experience was amazing, with a highlight being our Mardi Himal trek out of Pokhara. Raj welcomed us at the airport with a flower garland and a friendly smile, which he never lost, and he patiently answered our many questions. Despite the drizzle, our guide Navin led us quietly through all the worthy spots of Kathmandu, and we were mesmerized by the Hindu temple where families burn their dead relatives on the riverbank. Luckily, there was a festival going on and huge marigold garlands were paraded around the temple grounds and hung along the bridges over the river. Later on, we experienced a Pooja from up close, which was very impressive with the temple in the background.
Joined by our two friends, we took off to Pokhara by plane, which really saves a lot of time vs going by bus. There, we had a very tasty lunch in the Moondance restaurant at the lake and met with our guides and porters. I cannot say enough about our main guide, Ishwar; his knowledge, his English skills, but mostly being such a kind and helpful man impressed the four of us immensely. The assistant guide, Pemba, was also amazing....the early days started with him bringing us coffee in bed. We brought our Italian percolator, which beats the available instant stuff, and I highly recommend it ;-)
My husband was the fastest climber of the four of us and likes to joke that Pemba was his private guide. Without exchanging many words, they climbed the mountain and became friends. The two sweet and amazingly strong porters, Gyan and Naresh, also did not speak a word of English but were very pleasant company. Together, the guys made sure we had everything we could possibly need. Every afternoon, the clouds and fog were coming in, and the air became cold and damp, so it was a little bit of a setback to learn that after Forest Camp, there would be no wood stove anymore in the teahouses. A recent rule apparently was to try to save the forest, but for us, it meant that we were not shedding that many layers, even while sitting inside.... A fire would definitely have made the whole experience more enjoyable.
The menu in all the teahouses is the same, but truth to be told, some cooks are better at the execution. Our favorite was High Camp, where porters and climbers alike shared the big room, and the lady who runs the place was super friendly and makes the best pan pizza!! We were generally pleasantly surprised that we could arrange hot water every day to have a "shower". It is funny how quickly you get used to everything, and we still miss sleeping in our cozy, warm sleeping bag. Going up to the viewpoint at 4 AM in the morning with the still full moon shining to our left and the sun rising to our right was an absolute high. After a hot ginger tea, we climbed a little further and warmed up in the sun, totally alone eye in eye with the whole mountain range....an unforgettable experience. Later on, we understood it was still possible to do the Mardi Himal trek without a guide, but we were totally happy to be in the good hands and enjoyable company of Ishwar, Pemba, and the porters.
We chose Mardi Himal this time around because it was a trek less traveled and lasted only 6 days, but personally, I was missing the local life and culture along this path, as I had encountered earlier in Bhutan. The trek was not very challenging, except for the climb to the viewpoint due to the altitude. Our next trek will definitely be Annapurna Circuit, and we are already looking forward to going with our new friends from Visit Himalaya Treks.....looking back with very fond memories!!
Initially, we were about to choose a hike without a guide but in the end, we are very glad we chose to go with a guide from Visit Himalaya Treks!
Once in contact, which started already in the Netherlands, the communication with Himal was very open and easy. His response was clear and fast. Also the itinerary, costs and ‘what to arrange’ were clear from the start. The package could be adapted to our starting point and wishes and he also helped with questions on our further itinerary.
We did the Mardi Himal Trek and our guide was Ngima Kaji Sherpa, an absolute stunner! With his years of experience as a porter, assistant guide, guide, and climber but still being fairly young at age, he was the perfect guide for our trek. He was able to tell us all about the flora and fauna, the different mountains, and the local communities. Next to that, he explained his personal history and current life. This is a perfect way to work out, enjoy amazing views, and get to know about Nepalese culture.
We were super lucky with the weather and got clear views and a little rain. I would recommend Visit Himalaya Treks and Ngima to anyone!

We always try to be flexible in designing the trip itinerary for our client’s needs. However, if you are not convinced with our suggested itinerary then of course you are always welcome to customize or change the trip itinerary.
A holiday should never be about making it to the final point quickly. Along your trek, we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, porters, accommodation, and food.
An average physical fitness should be maintained before booking a trek. Any sort of illness or recent medical problems should be mentioned while booking a trip. Most of our itineraries are prepared to give you maximum time to acclimatize and pace-setting on the treks would be done according to your convenience. If you are taking regular medication then tell us before the trip starts which would be better for us to give you the physical feedback.
Our main concern is your safety. We never compromised on your safety during the Trekking and all our guides are properly trained and well equipped to take care of our client's safety in even the remote areas as well.
There would be always back support in case of an emergency like severe high-altitude sickness or accident (which is least expected), you will be sent to the nearest hospital if possible otherwise rescued by a helicopter and sent to the hospital as soon as possible. Since you are entirely liable for all the expenses incurred for the use of such emergency services, please make sure that your travel insurance covers both- medical and emergency evacuation costs.
It is not a problem at all because in a mountain most of the tea houses/lodges serve vegetarian food as well and our guide will take care of the time cooking and on a camping trek, our cook and staff will care all about the food section.
Most of the lodges in the mountains are the basic ones like a guest house or tea house style. In a few major towns or settlements, where are the possibilities we provide you with the best accommodation? Also, it depends upon the service packages.
Lately, most of the teahouses have electricity supply even with solar panels. So, charging your gadgets is not a problem at all. But charging your battery you should have to pay an additional fee (US$ 1 to 3 approx. per hour.), to get your gadgets to be charged.
Now a day’s most of the major village has a cell phone network connection. However, in a remote area where cell phones do not work, and even if there is no other communication access then we send satellite phones along with our guide so you can always be in touch with your family.
Yes, either you can store the same hotel as you stayed or we can store your goods with us safely in our office free of cost.
The luggage must not exceed up to 20 kilos. A trekking helper (porter) carries baggage of less than 15 kilos. This bag can be received at the end of each day’s trek and you should carry the rest of the weight as a day bag with all your money and valuables inside it.
This is a difficult thing to gauge. We have seen everything from USD 25 to USD 900 per person for guides and porters. Tipping is not required, but a small gesture of thanks to your guides and local porters. The Level of the tip should reflect the level of satisfaction from and personal involvement with your guide. However, we recommend you spend a minimum of 10% of your total trip cost for tipping the entire local staff.
