Mustang is located behind the High Himalayas in the northern part of western Nepal. It is geographically, culturally, ethnically, and religiously closer to Tibet than to other regions of Nepal. The Mustang district can be divided into two areas: Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang. All the villages north of Kagbeni belong to Upper Mustang. In the local Tibetan language, Upper Mustang is referred to as "Lo Tsho Dyun," which means "seven valleys."

Upper Mustang was governed by the Mustang Raja (Lo Gyalpo) from the 13th century, beginning with Ama Pal, the first Lo King, until 2008 AD. The Lo King lost his royal title when Nepal transitioned to a republic, ending centuries of monarchy.

We offer a complete 20-day  Upper Mustang Trek, from arrival to departure. This extended trek provides the best opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture, experience warm hospitality, and learn about the authentic lifestyle of the people. Additionally, the longer version allows for a thorough exploration of monasteries, stupas, and local villages. Upper Mustang is rich in Buddhist history and culture, offering experiences that are unique to this region. You will not find a culture like this anywhere else in the world.

Another attraction is the Tiji Festival, celebrated every year in May in Upper Mustang. This beautiful Buddhist festival has historical significance and is unique to Upper Mustang in Nepal. Additionally, you may want to explore our Upper Mustang trek. videos here
