When is the best time to trek to Pikey Peak?

Trekking and Hiking in Nepal can be enjoyed throughout the year, depending on the best place to hike in Nepal. Choosing the most popular time, either the autumn or spring season, the Pikey Peak Trek can be done throughout the year.

The Pikey Peak Trek in the autumn season.
The autumn season is a popular time for hiking and trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal. After the monsoon, the clear sky, stunning views, and pleasant temperatures from September to November make it the ideal time to trek Pikey Peak during the autumn season.

The Pikey Peak Trek in the winter season.
Trekking to Pikey Peak during the winter is absolutely possible. During the wintertime, fewer people are compared to autumn, and it is absolutely possible to enjoy the trek with stunning views of the Himalayas.

The Pikey Peak Trek in the spring season.
The spring season is a favorite time for hiking and trekking among nature lovers. Not only do trekkers enjoy stunning mountain views, but they also delight in the sounds of chirping birds and the vibrant array of wildflowers blooming along the trails. On the way to Pikey Peak, we will trek through a beautiful rhododendron forest. From mid-March to mid-April, the Laliguras flowers (rhododendrons) are in full bloom along the Pikey Peak trekking route, enhancing the beauty of the journey.

The Pikey Peak Trek in the summertime.
Trekking to Pikey Peak during the summer is definitely feasible and truly enchanting. It feels like playing a game of hide and seek with nature, nestled in the embrace of Mount Everest. However, trekking in the summer requires careful preparation and the right gear, including a raincoat, rain trousers, and an umbrella, which are essential for this season. From June to early September, the region experiences heavy rainfall, making the trails slippery and the sky often cloudy. Therefore, it's crucial to trek with caution on the route to Pikey Peak during this time in Nepal.

Where is Pikey Peak located?

The Pikey Peak Hill is located at an elevation of 4065 meters, Pikey Peak II, and 4068 meters, Pikey I, in the lower Everest region of Nepal. Both viewpoints provide similar views of the breathtaking Himalayan views and surrounding natural diversity. The Pikey Peak I viewpoint is less crowded compared to the II viewpoint. The distance between these two viewpoints is approximately a 30-minute walk.

I want to see a full view of Mount Everest without flying to Lukla. Which trek offers great views of Mount Everest?
The Pikey Peak offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including five of the world's highest peaks: Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Cho Oyu. In addition to these magnificent mountains, the Pikey Peak viewpoint provides stunning vistas of the Khumbu and Rolwaling regions, featuring Numbur Himal, Gaurishankar, and other notable Himalayan landscapes.

There are no other treks than pikey Peak, without flying to Lukla, and reaching the extreme high altitude to observe Mount Everest and the other eight-thousanders. Thus, the Pikey Peak trek is an excellent choice to see Mount Everest without flying to Lukla.

Is a Guide and Porter mandatory for the Pikey Peak Trek?
The Pikey Peak Trek is an excellent option for beginner trekkers in Nepal, situated in the lower Everest region. The trekking trails are clearly marked, allowing for self-guided hikes. However, having an experienced guide can significantly enhance your experience by helping you engage with the local culture, sharing traditions, and offering support when needed.

Trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal requires the proper gear to ensure a pleasant journey. Carrying heavy baggage can make your holiday less enjoyable. Hiring a porter is an excellent way to enhance your experience without the burden of demanding physical effort. Additionally, hiring a porter directly supports the local economy and helps create jobs for the community.

As an official, you will not be required to hire a guide and Porter to trek the Pikey Peak in Nepal.

Essential Gear You Will Need for the Pikey Peak Hike.
The Pikey Peak Trek is one of the shorter treks, but despite its short walking distance, we will reach altitudes of about 4065 meters, so we will need to prepare well-equipped gear for cold temperature conditions at high altitudes. For a complete list of essential gear needed for the Pikey Peak Trek in Nepal, please visit this link: Pikey Peak Trek Essential Gear List.

It includes tea house accommodations and all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as tea and coffee). We recommend setting aside approximately USD 15-20 per day, totaling USD 120-200 per person for these extra costs.

Tipping Culture in Nepal: Guidelines for Tipping Your Guide and Porter.
Tipping is not mandatory, but it is an appreciated gesture to thank your guides and porters. The amount you choose to tip should reflect your satisfaction, your budget, and your personal connection to your guide. We recommend budgeting 10% to 15% your total trip cost for tips, which can be distributed to your guide and Porter.

Availability of Electricity, Phone, Internet, Wi-Fi on the Pikey Peak Trek?
Along the Pikey Peak Trek, you can charge your electronic devices at local tea houses. The trekking route in the lower Everest region of Nepal is well-connected to electricity and also has solar power backups, even in areas that are not reached by the power lines.

Communication is very important, keeping updated with families, loved ones, and friends while traveling to such a remote corner of the country. While trekking in the Pikey Peak, Local Sim NTC and NCEL both received a reasonable reception. Most of the guest houses and lodges have cable Wi-Fi and a landline phone available for any emergency call when needed.

Where should I store the extra goods that I won't need during my treks?
Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is where you will stay in a comfortable 3-star hotel. We will accommodate our clients here before you begin your trek. At the hotel, you can store any items you won't need during the trek at no extra cost, as all hotels provide free storage facilities.

Heart Touching Hometown Experience

Well, this was already my 6th time trekking with Visit Himalaya Treks. And again, it was another amazing experience!! Great english speaking guide with whom I could discuss about many different things (religion, economy, tradition and culture in nepal and around the world, emotions and wishes and so on...). He was friendly, care taking and a good partner whilst hiking.

I was personally very touched about how this people make you feel as a part of their family. Because this time I had the chance to hike up a the hill "Pike Peak" and afterwards visit the hometown of the owner Himal Tamang from Visit Himalaya Treks and his brother (my guide) Ishwar Tamang. WOW, what a heart touching experience to be remote and local and far away from other tourists! Thank you so much! I can heartly recommend Visit Himalaya Treks for any of your trip in Nepal! You will be in great hands and experience an unforgettable trip!

Pikey Peak trek

We have just returned from a 6 day trek from Jiri over Pikey Peak and down to Phaplu with Visit Himalaya Treks. During the planning for our first visit to Nepal as also first time trekking, Visit Himalaya Treks was recommended to us by family and they were great help with recommendations to suit our plans and organised everything to ensure that everything went smoothly. Our guides Krishna and Bikram were highly knowledgeable of the area and tracks. Their recommended routes and choice of tea houses allowed us to manage the increasing altitude and our levels of fitness. As we travelled through different areas Krishna kept us informed of the cultural aspects specific to that area, one of our goals in coming to Nepal. Bikram also helped with the cooking at some of the teahouses with a variety of choices and we are now familiar with local cuisine. Visit Himalaya Treks offers a very wide range of treks and activities and from our experience with this trek I would look no further. October - 2019.

FAQs

We always try to be flexible to design the trip itinerary for our client’s needs. However, if you are not convinced as our suggested itinerary then off-course you are always welcome to customize or change the trip itinerary.

Holiday should never be about making it to the final point quickly. Along your trek, we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, porters, accommodation, and food.

Holiday should never be about making it to the final point quickly. Along your trek, we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, porters, accommodation, and food.

An average physical fitness should be maintained prior to booking a trek. Any sort of illness or recent medical problems should be mentioned while booking a trip. Most of our itineraries are prepared to give you maximum time to acclimatize and pace-setting on the treks would be done according to your convenience. If you are having regular medication then tell us before the trip started which would be better for us to give you the physical feedback.

Our main concern is your safety. We never compromised on your safety during the Trekking and all our guides are properly trained and well equipped to take care of our client's safety even in remote areas as well.

There would be always back support in case of an emergency situation like severe high-altitude sickness or accident (which is least expected), you will be sent to the nearest hospital, if possible, otherwise rescued by a helicopter and sent you to the hospital as soon as possible. Since you are entirely liable for all the expenses incurred for the use of such emergency services, please make sure that your travel insurance covers both- medical and emergency evacuation costs.

It is not a problem at all because in this trek we will supply most of the foods from nearest store and remaining foods we buy from Locals that mean most of the time we served vegetarian food as well and our camping cook and guide will take care as well.

We use standard quality of (Camping Gears) like Clients tents (3 men tents for couple and two men tent for single), dining tents,  Shower Tent, Toilet Tent, staff tend thick mattress, etc.  Also, we care for our staff and provide them with proper equipment for the camping trek. You will also be requested to have the proper gear for your personal use which will be suggested while confirming the trip.

While during the camping trek it is really difficult to find the place to charge gadget somehow we will manage to charge if we stay close by village otherwise we have to take the portable solar panel to carry with us and charge our gadgets.

Now a day’s most of the areas has been covered by cell phone network connection. However, in this trek, we always send satellite phones along with our guide so you can easily be in touch with your family.

Yes, either you can store at the same hotel as you stayed or we can store your goods with us safely in our office free of cost.

This is a difficult thing to gauge. We have seen everything from USD 25 to USD 900 per person for guides and porters. Tipping is not required, but a small gesture of thanks to your guides and local porters. The level of the tip should reflect the level of satisfaction from and personal involvement with your guide. However, we recommend you to spend a minimum of 10% of your total trip cost for tipping the entire local staff.
