Annapurna Region is one of the most popular trekking regions in Nepal that boasts several world-class treks with each trek distinctly different from others. The whole region is in the Annapurna Conservation Area. Annapurna Region is also a great example of a protected area in the country’s case with a diverse landscape, climate, flora, and vegetation with equally varied social lives and religions of the various minority groups of the country.
Annapurna Region is so beautiful and majestic that every trekker in the world has heard about it. There are exciting and adventurous treks over the passes of Kang La Pass ( 5306 meters), Tilicho Pass ( 5340 meters), Mesokanto Pass ( 5121 meters), and the famous Thorang La Pass ( 5416 meters) in this region. There are plenty more options at lower elevations as well. Poon Hill is the best viewpoint in the region at only a mere elevation of 3210 meters.
There are several other similar short treks in Annapurna Region. The highest lake, Tilicho Lake ( meters), and Annapurna Base Camp are also in this very same region. The best thing about Annapurna Region is that one has options to do these treks in one long trek or several short treks.
The road has made a huge difference to the popular Annapurna Circuit and diminished the whole charm of it. But there are still places like the medieval villages of Nar and Phu, that offer the feeling of trekking in the wild, away in a placid environment. The road has done a similar thing to Upper Mustang but still, routes through the villages of Yara and Ghara provide an alternative but better option.
Annapurna Region offers a variety of treks that suits beginner as well as experienced trekkers. Treks like Annapurna Community Lodge Trek, and Poon Hill Trek are perfect treks for first-time travelers in Nepal. Annapurna Circuit Trek, Nar Phu Tilicho Lake, and Annapurna Base Camp Trek will suit people who have some previous experience in high-altitude treks. Nar Phu Chulu Far East Peak Tilicho Lake trek is for the experienced trekker who also wants to do some climbing.
