Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu,
The excitement starts when you land in Kathmandu the vibrant capital of Nepal. On your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will meet our tour representative who will transfer you to your hotel. The day is yours to relax or delve into the chaotic vibe of Thamel with its range of shops, cafes, and trekking gear stores. A welcome dinner with a briefing on the adventure ahead to Makalu Base Camp Trek will feature your evening time. Overnight will be at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation in Kathmandu,
The day is dedicated to exploring the cultural wonders of Kathmandu Valley. Today, pay a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) known for its rich history and spirituality. After the sightseeing, take another look at your trekking gear and make a small purchase if you have left anything to buy in Thamel. In the evening attend trek briefing with your guides to be ready for the wilderness the next day. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar & Drive to Num (1,572m)
From Kathmandu, we board the morning flight to Tumlingtar. It's a very beautiful flight as we can observe the views of the Himalayas. After we land, this drive of about four-five hours allows us to start seeing the beautiful hills, terraced fields, and traditional Nepalese rural life along the Num village. Num is a clean little village that sits on a ridge top and looks out over deep valleys with distant snow-covered peaks. Relax and enjoy the view at Num. We spend our overnight at Num.
Day 4: Trek to Seduwa (1,500m)
The trek starts at Num with a tough steep descent to the Arun River and its impressive suspension bridge then the hard climb to Seduwa. The route leads through deep forests and terraced hillsides; occasionally giving glimpses of the village of local Rai people. As you gain height the scene slowly turns revealing extraordinary green surroundings and far away snow-clad mountain views. You will enjoy the night staring at the starry sky at Seduwa.
Day 5: Trek to Tashigaon (2,100m)
Departing Seduwa, the trail climbs gradually through beautiful ridges and passes small villages and farms. The entire trail offers you an amazing view of the hills and valleys around you. As you go further into Makalu Barun National Park, the scenery becomes amazing, especially with its dense forests of rhododendrons and the way there. After several hours of uphill slog, Tashigaon welcomes you. This scenic Sherpa village provides a quiet environment to relax.
Day 06: Trek to Khongma Danda (3500 meters)
The trek today is tough with a steep climb through thick rhododendron and oak forests. Further up on the hill, the amazing alpine meadows promise highly rewarding views of Mount Makalu, Chamlang, and Peak 6. After going past stone-paved trials and rough terrain, you will reach Danda Kharka before climbing to Khongma Danda. Khongma Danda provides stunning sunset views over the surrounding peaks like Kanchenjunga and Everest. Rest up, and acclimatize in this serene high-altitude setting before getting ready for the next journey on the following day.
Day 07: Acclimatization Day at Khongma Danda (3500 meters)
Today is an important acclimatization day to get used to the altitude as we will keep on increasing altitude every day. Today we will explore the area around Khongma Danda Ridge which provides magnificent views of Peak 6 and Peak 7. A quick hike up to various viewpoints like Khongma La Pass will give you panoramic views of the Barun Valley & distant Himalayan peaks. Rest, drink water, soak in the mountain sun and also the peaceful atmosphere before we cross the tough high passes.
Day 08: Trek to Dobate via Shipton La Pass and Keke la Pass (3844 meters)
The trekking begins with a steep upwards to Shipton La Pass (4,12500m). During the trek, savor the sight of Mount Makalu, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga Chamlang, Baruntse, and Peak 6. Reaching the top of Shipton La you descend slightly before the final ascent to Keke La Pass (4,170m). The trail drops down on its side through thick forests of rhododendrons. An isolated village Dobate greets you amid the alpine wilderness. In the evening, you can engage in conversations with the local Sherpa and Rai tribes, learning about their traditions and daily habits.
Day 09: Trek to Yangle Kharka (Yangri Kharka) (3557 meters)
Today's Trek kicks in with a steep descent through a thick forest of rhododendrons and fir. It goes through rocky cliffs and waterfalls that cascade down the trail making it ever so dynamic. As you enter Barun Valley feel the charm of the peaks like Mt. Tutse ( Peak 6), Isuwa La, and the lower Barun Glacier. Following the Barun River, the route reaches the open meadow of Yangle Kharka which serves as a summer grazing area for Yaks and sheep. In the evening you can relax in the serene environment and communicate with the locals of Yangle Kharka.
Day 10: Trek to Langmale Kharka (4410 Meters)
With the sun returning in the Barun Valley, the morning mist gently rises to reveal a stunning alpine sight. This trail starts with an initial climb through yak herders' camp and a few stone huts at the end of the village. Trees disappear and the trial becomes rough continuing through glacial moraines to rocky ridges leading to stunning views of stunning Pemthang Karpo Ri, Peak 7 & West Face of Makalu. Spend the night at Langmale Kharka (4410 m), deep under the starry night sky with a view of snow towering peaks.
Day 11: Trek to Makalu Base Camp (4870 meters)
Today, the trek will be interesting as we march forward to the Makalu Base Camp. The route gets more challenging - winding through the rocky and rugged terrain. We will keep trekking up to the cliffs. As you climb higher, you'll see The Barun Glacier to your right and the Makalu Glacier making its way up to the base of Makalu's icy summit. The landscape transforms into dry hills, with Mount Makalu drawing ever closer as you trek. Reaching MBC (4,870m) is quite adventurous. Savor the panoramic view of neighboring Himalayas like Lhotse, Everest, and Kanchenjunga. The icy glaciers and the towering peaks of Makalu, Chamlang, and Baruntse surround the camp. The satisfaction and the mesmerizing beauty of the base of one of the highest mountains in the world are hard to describe. Overnight will be at Makalu Base Camp relishing the icy vibe of the Makalu Base Camp.
Day 12: Explore Makalu Base Camp (Barun Glacier and Barun Pokhari) 5100 meters
Today is your day to soak in Makalu Base Camp's magnificence. The crisp morning air fills your lungs as you take in the dramatic views across the mighty Makalu Glacier. You'll hike for a short time to the heavenly Barun Pokhari, a high mountain lake located below the glacial cliffs. It lies right below Kangchung Ri and the South Face of Makalu. Spend the day exploring the icy terrain, marveling at the glaciers all around, and capturing the serene beauty.
Day 13: Trek back to Yangri Kharka Camp (3557 meters)
After spending an unforgettable time at Makalu Base Camp, you will hit the trail back to Yangri Kharka. We follow the trail back down through the high alpine vegetation and descend steadily towards Barun Valley. The beginning of the transition to lush vegetation and alpine meadows around Barun Valley starts. The barren cliffs turn into green. You will make it to Yangri Kharka by evening, where you get to rest for the day, in peaceful surroundings with fresh mountain air.
Day 14: Trek back to Dobate (3650 meters)
After Yangri Kharka you further descend into Dobate with a load on your back. The trail passes through thick woods of fir and juniper trees, featuring the jungle echoes with calls of natural life. Along the trail, you will get the sight of huge Chungtang and Peak 4. Crossing the crystal-clear glacier stream and narrow canyons, the routes take you back to Dobate, where a quiet mountain retreat awaits before the next day of trekking.
Day 15: Trek back to Khongma Danda (3500 meters)
Today's trek brings you back through the pine woods and farm terraces to Khongma Danda. Over time you will gain some magnificent views of Makalu, Chamlang, and Peak 6. The trail crosses rocky sections with alpine meadows that might trigger a Himalayan tahr sighting. At Khongma Danda, share a Dal Bhat meal with the Sherpa families at the lodge viewing the high peaks. Give yourself a night of rest and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Day 16: Trek back to Tashigaon (2100 meters)
The route down to the valley is refreshing. The trail crosses two secret mountain hamlets of Danda Kharka and Unshisa. Lush forests take over for rocky terrain. Birds sing for you around here, and the wind makes prayer flags dance. Farmers are at work on their terraced fields. The air mixes up with the fragrance of pine and soil. The nostalgia hits after reaching the majestic settlement of Tashigaon. Relish a bowl of fresh Thukpa (noodle soup) and butter tea. Spend the overnight stargazing the beautiful skies visible from the Alpine Ecosystem.
Day 17: Trek back to Seduwa (1500 meters)
The descent takes us through serene forests and rolling hills. The route will go through small hamlets like Chyakse Danda, and Nabagaon where you witness the traditional Nepali homes and smiling locals. Gradually the air becomes warmer and the trail smells of wildflowers. Crossing over small wooden bridges above little rivers we reach Seduwa, a vibrant village in terraced farms. Enjoy the rest of the evening absorbing the village life around you.
Day 18: Trek back to Num (1560 meters) & drive to Tumlingtar overnight at the hotel
After having our breakfast, we get a scenic descent on our final trekking day. Look around on our walk, Walking past beautiful villages like Mulgaon, where we find the villagers carrying heavy baskets of vegetables on their backs. Climb up and cross at Arun River and let the sound of water flow reach your ear. Once we reach Num we bid adieu to our mountainous trail and take a drive to Tumlingtar where our warm meal and good night's rest await.
Day 19: Flight to Kathmandu receives at airport transfer to Hotel.
Enjoy a peaceful morning at Tumlingtar. Board a scenic flight back to Kathmandu featuring aerial views of the Himalayan chain on the north. Check in to your hotel and relax upon arrival. The rest of the day is on your own. Cherish the beautiful moments in the streets of Thamel with an amazing evening.
Day 20: Free day at Kathmandu.
Begin your day with a peaceful walk around Thamel. Head to Kathmandu Durbar Square and discover Kumari Ghar, and Hanuman Dhoka along Taleju Temple. From here you'll stroll through Ason Bazaar and Indra Chowk which will give you the real feel of being in a live market. Try the Newari khaja set, yomari and juju dhau. Visit the Swayambhunath Stupa in the afternoon to take in the beauty of the surroundings. Alternatively either hang out at the Garden of Dreams or take a soothing walk around Pashupatinath in the evening or Boudhanath Stupa to reflect on your Makalu Base Camp Trek.
Day 21: Departure.
The adventure of a lifetime comes to an end. Soak in the early morning tranquillity of Kathmandu with one last cup of Masala tea. Wander around Thamel for last-minute following shopping, depending on your flight time. Head over to Tribhuvan International Airport with memories from Makalu Base Camp Trek.
